Perilous Light by Alyssa Rose Ivy - Review

Welcome to Reading It All's stop in the Beckoning Light & Perilous Light Tour presented by Enchanted Book Tours!

Title: Perilous Light
Author: Alyssa Rose Ivy

Synopsis: Would you sacrifice everything for a world you barely knew? A year has passed since Charlotte and Kevin first stepped through the gate into Energo and neither has been able to settle back into their normal lives. Charlotte tries to distract herself from thoughts of Calvin with the antics of James and her growing friendship with Liam. Kevin can’t seem to shake his feelings for Samantha as he adjusts to his new identity as a college basketball player. When they unexpectedly return to Energo, both Charlotte and Kevin must face their fears and become the leaders they were always meant to be.

My Thoughts: Where Beckoning Light was a great book, Perilous Light is an amazing book! The writing seemed to flow better and I was just so entranced. This book was fast paced and full of adventure. My only complaint was that it wasn't longer. I would have happily read another 300 pages.

In this book the characters relationships really start to build. Charlotte and Liam grow closer (Team Liam!!) as friends, although there is obviously some more feelings involved. Once they are back in Energo Kevin and Samantha's relationship finally starts to blossom. I was so happy with this development! Finally Charlotte and Calvin work to rebuild their relationship after a year apart.

Once again I just love Charlotte. She is still so unsure of herself and her powers in this book. Finally gaining a little courage and confidence she starts to prove herself. I love reading about how she is learning and growing in this book.

Liam was a much bigger player in this book. An (sorta) unexpected twist happens with him, and just further endears me to him. I have to say I still completely hope he ends up with Charlotte, no matter how misguided that may be. Liam is like Charlotte's most trusted friend, and someone she can lean on.

Calvin really grew in this book. He finally came to a harsh reality that what he thought was right, was definitely not. I was happy when he went back to help Charlotte. I may not cheer for him but he does help build her confidence. I hope he doesn't disappoint me again in the future.

Kevin is just amazing in this book. He doubts himself a little at first. I love how confident he becomes. He was standing up to people, and fighting for Energo. I also love that he and Samantha are finally beginning to explore their feelings for one another. Samantha is one tough girl, and I love her parts in the story.

Of course Monty is back. He is the ever protective, fun-loving uncle. We get to meet some great new characters in this book. Emma, Charlotte and Kevin's mom, is finally introduced to the readers. The Resistance is being introduced more, and so are the many races that make up this world through the doorway. We also get introduced to so much more of this world in this book. There is a lot of traveling and we get to read about some amazing places.

I would recommend for people to definitely read the first book, Beckoning Light, first. It helps explain so much of what has happened to lead to the events in Perilous Light. The only real complaint I could have about this book is that it should be so much longer. I cannot wait for the next book!!
