Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Words/Topics That Instantly Make Me Buy/Pick Up A Book

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This weeks theme is the Top Ten Words/Topics That Instantly Make Me Buy/Pick Up A Book.

1. Dystopia - I love books where the world as we know it is over, and a new society is either starting or is already established.

2. Zombies - I enjoy zombie apocalypse books (and movies).

3. Revamped Fairy tales - This is a new obsession for me. I love the retold fairy tales. I just read The Never by Kristina Circelli, which reminded me of a darker Peter Pan.

4. Fae - If Fae is in the title or description I will pick the book up.

5. Shifters - I used to only read about werewolves, but the entire shifter world gets my interest lately.

6. Holocaust - I love history, so most books set in the past interest me, but the Holocaust has always drawn my attention the most.

7. Titanic - When I was a teen I always got any books I could find on the Titanic, fiction or non-fiction. That word still catches my attention in a book.

8. Young Adult - I know that is a whole genre, but I tend to pick up any young adult books, especially with compelling stories, like 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher and Chasing Nikki by Lacey Weatherford. I also love young adult romances.

9. Rockstars - I blame, and thank, S.C. Stephens for this one. Ever since Kellan Kyle, I am always looking at books with a rockstar in them.

10. Wolves - I love wolves. Werewolves, real wolves, it doesn't matter. If there are wolves involved I am going to check it out.

So that is my top ten. Let me know about yours in the comments or leave a link and I'll stop by.

The Never by Kristina Circelli - Review

The Never

The Never

Synopsis:
“Out of nothing, we create something.”
Arianna has spent her entire life being called a dreamer, an artist who created a world no one else can see. And for her entire life, she has taken the medication that keeps that world – and the one who brought her there – at bay.
Now an adult, Arianna reawakens that part of herself kept locked away in the darkest corners of her mind. When she hides her medicine from her fiancĂ©’s ever-watchful eye, he returns – the shadow in the night who collects her for an adventure known only in her fantasies.
But something is different about this world called The Never. It is no longer the cheerful place filled with light and laughter that she knew as a child. Now, the sea creatures drag their visitors into the depths of murky waters. The natives battle to the death against the tribe of children. And the pirates, led by the feared captain called The Hunter, seek out Arianna for their own sinister plans.
As Arianna goes deeper into The Never, she discovers just what her connection to the land means – and must choose between her life rooted in reality, and the world where anything is possible.
My Thoughts: I read the synopsis of this book without even associating it with anything. It sounded interesting and I wanted to read it. I started the book and was a little ways into it before a commercial for Peter Pan came on and it clicked for me. I dove back in and drank the story up, loving every moment of what Kristina Circelli could tell me about The Never.
The story and characters were complex and always twisting. Every time I would think I had a grasp on something, a new lie or secret would be revealed. There was just so much mystery, and I didn't want to stop reading. I needed to learn about all of the secrets surrounding Arianna. I had to know what each of the three men in her life were hiding from her. The adventures were wild! These weren't the cheerful adventures from the movie my children love. Circelli wrote adventures that had me holding my breath. I desperately needed to know the outcomes, but I dreaded them as well. There were deaths and thievery, and darker things that were sad to read. But there was also love, joy, and redemption.
This was the first book of Kristina Circelli's that I have read. It was an amazing way to be introduced to an author. The Never will take readers flying, pillaging, fighting, loving, and learning. Circelli has amazing talent, and I cannot wait to read her other books.

Beyond the Western Sun by Kristina Circelli - Free on Amazon April 13 - 17

Beyond the Western Sun

Beyond The Western Sun

*Book One in The Whisper Legacy* A gripping journey into the heart of Native American legend, "Beyond the Western Sun" follows the epic struggle of Whisper, a young female Cherokee apprentice, on a harrowing adventure into the Land of the Dead to save the captive son of Ian Diavya. Together they face insurmountable odds, conquer terrible demons, and in the process, find a strength and courage within themselves neither knew possible. What they don't know is that these early adventures are only tests, for to save Ian's son, they must also stop the evil-minded Raven-Eater from unleashing his Army of the Dead to destroy the living world. As the Army of the Dead marches closer to the Western Sun, as Whisper leads them deeper into the Land of the Dead, and as the truth behind Cole's death is slowly revealed, Ian discovers that the fate of both worlds depends on his courage, his humility, and the life of his son. An epic saga of hope, redemption, and undying love, "Beyond the Western Sun" is what all fantasy adventures must strive to be: a complex, intricate examination of human emotion set within the context of worlds known only in our imagination. And in this regard, "Beyond the Western Sun" is a stunning achievement. Melding fantasy and legend in an epic quest, the third novel of her young career signals the arrival of Kristina Circelli as a master storyteller. Creating the indelible character of Whisper, vividly portraying the worlds that she and Ian must traverse to accomplish their goal, and capturing their human frailties, hopes and fears with depth and touching sincerity, Circelli reminds us with stunning precision the greatness we are all capable of, and the heavy price our actions can rend.
